Mariah Carey to be Honored at BMI Music Awards, Spills Release Date of New Song

Things continue to go well for Mariah Carey, who is reportedly in talks to make $17 million as a judge on American Idol; Broadcast Music, Inc. has announced that they will be honoring Mariah with the Icon Award at the BMI Urban Awards on Sept. 7.

Past BMI honorees include Al Green, The Jacksons, and James Brown. We say this award is well-deserved! Over the course of her two-decade career, Mariah has 18 number one hits and sold more than 200 million records worldwide.

"Mariah Carey is one of the most prolifically successful songwriters of the last several decades in any genre of music," a statement from BMI reads. "With her distinct five-octave vocal range and the finesse with which she scaled it, Carey defined the modern pop performance, delivering the songs she wrote with awe-inspiring grace and power."

Mariah also shared that the song will be out in early August and features Rick Ross and Meek Mill.
