As a Grammy-winning singer and star of Broadway’s Chicago, Mya knows all the tricks for maintaining a sleek physique.

How does she do it?

“It’s diet because I can’t always workout every day,” she tells me. “Egg whites in the morning, with a piece of fruit. Water is very important all day long. Protein shake for the second meal and a piece of fruit. For my third and fifth meal, I’ll have lean fish, green vegetables and water. That’s pretty much it. My fourth meal is the same as meal number two. My dietitian encourages eating five times a day at least, if not six.”

The 29-year-old singer cops to spending four hours per week maximum on her exercise routine – and it’s not always spent in the gym.

“I like to run outside or do aerobic activity for cardio – in place,” she tells me. “You can use things like chairs or the edges of tubs in your hotel room or your apartment to do dips for your biceps, triceps, pushups, situps. I take bands on the road for resistance that will work your arms and your legs out. I have an ab routine and an arm routine that I abide by when I cannot get to the gym at all.”

In addition, she gets a workout by walking her dogs, Rambo, Pepper and Bear.  The star will celebrate with other rescued pets and their owners at a birthday bash thrown by North Shore Animal League in Port Washington, N.Y. on Friday. If you're in the area, feel free to stop by. It's open to everyone.

The event, dubbed DOGust the First, recognizes that the birthdates of rescued pets are typically unknown. Partygoers can choose from a large selection of adoptable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.

Get a sleek physique like Mya’s by adopting a pet -- and using her diet and workout tips.
