Nicole Richie DUI Probation Extended Due to Mom Duties

Even the best excuse isn't getting Nicole Richie off easy when it comes to her probation. The reality star/socialite has had her DUI probation extended for an additional year today for failure to attend her alcohol education classes, E! News reports. And the reason for her absence — being a mom newborn boy Sparrow and big sis Harlow.

According to E! News, Nicole, 28, will have until March 2011 to take the mandatory courses required under supervision of the court before she's officially clear of her charges.

The judge ruled if Nicole finished the required courses before than, the probation would end.

Nicole's incident occurred in December 2006 when she was charged with a DUI by California Highway Patrol after driving the wrong way on a Burbank freeway and failing a field sobriety test.

She was charged with driving under the influence and sentenced to four days in the the slammer, but only severd about an hour before authorities released her.
