Oscar-Winning Director Anthony Minghella Dies

Anthony Minghella, the director of The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain, among others, has died. He was 54. Details of his death were not immediately available.

His 1996 film The English Patient won nine Academy Awards, including best director for Minghella and best picture. Minghella most recently worked on last year’s Oscar-nominated film Michael Clayton as an executive producer.

He was recently in Botswana filming an adaptation of Alexander McCall Smith’s novel The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, which will air on British television this week.
