Despite her pedigree as the daughter of actor and Oscar-winning director Ron Howard, Bryce Dallas Howard is no Hollywood wildchild.

Wanting to focus on her acting work, she settled down with fellow actor Seth Gabel at age 25 without taking the Hollywood party scene by storm.

“Well, my parents are great,” Bryce, 32, tells me this week during Canon’s Project Imaginat10n Film Festival. “I was raised in Connecticut. laughs That was part of it, although I am raising my children in Los Angeles, and I feel good about it. I feel like it’s a good place. I have no prejudice against Los Angeles, but I think during that time, in the ‘80s, the fact that they made that decision was one that they felt empowered by.”

Still, that’s not all. Her parents’ strong marriage was also a factor.

“My parents have been together since they were 16 years old,” she explains. “My dad is a very moral person, a very good person, and my mom Cheryl Howard is an intensely protective, fierce, hardcore warrior woman. “Oh, probably a trip to Big Bear, California. They’ve got a great zoo up there, it’s fun to take the kids there, and it’s a great day trip.”

In addition to making great films, being a grandparent is his passion.

“There’s something about participating in the cycles of life in such a vivid, present way,” he says. “It’s emotional, it’s profound and it happens all the time, but it’s a unique aspect that I don’t think Cheryl and I anticipated.”
