Revenge's Nick Wechsler Weighs In on Jack's Evolution, Plot Twists and Playing a Dad

Now that so many of Revenge's characters have shown their villainous sides it's hard to feel compassion for many of them, with the exception of Jack Porter. Despite going to a darker place emotionally, we still root for this guy to come out ahead. OK! caught up with Nick Wechsler at ABC's All-Star party during the Television Critics Assocation Summer Press Tour where the actor offered his take on Jack's evolution and the awkwardness that is working with babies.

OK!: How do you feel about how Jack has been evolving?

Nich Wechsler: I like it. As the person playing him, season one required some patience because it was slow moving. He was in the dark about everything so there was a lot of checking in, reminding you that he’s there and occasionally giving you something that’s significant to his purpose in this over-arching story. But in season two there were a lot of consequences for Emily’s pursuit of revenge that fell on him that raised the stakes and meant that he was bound to find out. There was a lot more forward movement in season two. For all of my impatience in season one, we were rewarded when he finally went dark. They kind of earned him going dark. If he went dark earlier I think the audience would have said, “Well now everyone’s dark.” But now people are behind him. People are just yelling at their TVs going, “No, not him!” That’s awesome. We’ve successfully manipulated the audience into being annoying people at movies, “Don’t open that door!” It’s good.

OK!: Which series plot twist surprised you the most?

NW: Off the top of my head the fact that the baby was actually Jack’s. Once you bring a baby onto a show you can’t kill it. It’s a bold move. Well now we’re committed and we have to deal with this. While not ideal I’m just impressed with how bold that was. It means I have to work with a baby all of the time. I mean, they’re lovely babies but they’re unpredictable. It creates this permanent, interesting obstacle.

OK!: Have you been around many babies? Was this natural for you?

NW: No, and you can really tell. I don’t know what I’m doing. At this point I should know but in season three we see I still don’t know how to pick him up. I think you know when it’s your baby or when you’re a nanny. But for someone who doesn’t have kids, I think you’re perpetually like, “Is this right? How do you do it?” You’re handling someone else’s precious, collectable comic book and you’re like, “Should I not turn the page? I don’t know – you tell me!”
