Amidst the chaos in war-torn Libya, Ryan Phillippe stays grounded as his new film The Bang Bang Club is praised at the Tribeca Film Festival in NYC last night. In the movie, Ryan plays the role of  combat photographer during the fall of the Apartheid in South Africa, so the news of journalist fatalities in Libya struck a poignant chord for Ryan.

“It’s crazy that that incident happened yesterday and the film is released tomorrow. It’s really unbelievable," Ryan told reporters at last night's premiere. "I think it just shows you the risk and the chances that these people take to tell the stories that need to be told."

Documentary director and photographer Tim Hetherington was killed alongside Getty Images veteran photojournalist Chris Hondros on Wednesday.

Ryan realizes that it's not just the journalists who are in danger.

"There are so many other people losing their lives in Libya … I just think this happens to be journalists and renowned journalists. But every day there’s civilians dying in Libya," he explained.

With everything that is going on in the world and in his career, Ryan still finds time to spend with his kids, Ava and Deacon. He tells reporters that he thinks he has found a good balance between family and work.

“I don’t work all the time. Months go by where I’m at home with the kids full-time so it’s not that much of a challenge."
