Last night ABC's Charlie Gibson interviewed Sarah Palin for the first time since John McCain announced she would be his running mate in his bid for the White House. And while some might doubt her experience, having been governor of Alaska for less than two years, Sarah says she's got what it takes.

"I do, Charlie, and on January 20 when John McCain and I are sworn in, if we are so privileged to be elected to serve this country, we'll be ready. I'm ready," she replied, when Charlie asked if she has what it takes to be the VP and even the president someday.

Although John McCain's pick came as a surprise to many, Sarah said she never hesitated when it came to accepting the nomination.

"I answered him yes because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can't blink, you have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we're on, reform of this country and victory in the war, you can't blink," she said.

The Alaska governor also spoke about the war, a war in which her son Track will be fighting soon, as members of his unit are expected to travel to Iraq in the coming weeks.

"We end war when we see victory, and we do see victory in sight in Iraq," she told Charlie.

Yesterday Sarah also spoke to Track's unit, the Army's 1st Stryker Brigade, Delta company, in Anchorage, Alaska, although she never directly addressed her son.

"Don't mind us if we allow for a few tears," she said.  "Because we're gonna miss you. We can’t help it. We’re gonna miss you."
