For the first time since Seinfeld wrapped in 1998, funny man Jerry Seinfeld is making his first big TV comeback with new unscripted comedy series The Marriage Ref.

Partnered with Oprah Winfrey Show executive producer Ellen Rakieten, Jerry has created a show in which "opinionated celebrities, comedians and sports stars ... will candidly comment, judge and offer different strategies for real-life couples in the midst of a classic marital dispute."

The comedian is quick to add that, "This is not a therapy show, it's a comedy show." Jerry first pitched his idea to NBC's Ben Silverman, who said, "We were laughing the whole time as Jerry and Ellen went through the concept. As Jerry noted, some of the greatest comedies in history have been about marriage."

NBC has ordered six episodes of the series, but has not yet alloted it a timeslot or premiere date.

The comedian cites his own experience as inspiration for the show. "After nine years of marriage, I have discovered that the comedic potential of this subject is quite rich," Jerry said.
