Sharon Stone has apologized for suggesting China's devastating earthquakes were the result of "bad karma."

"Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people," Sharon said in a statement. "I am willing to take part in the relief work of China's earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people."

During an interview at the Cannes Film Festival, the actress said the May 12 disaster, which killed 68,000 people, was connected to China's policy on Tibet.

"I'm not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don't think anyone should be unkind to anyone else," she said.

As a result, the 50-year-old was dropped from Christian Dior's Chinese ads and the Chinese government banned Sharon's films from the country's cinemas.

"We don't agree with her hasty, unreflecting remarks and we deeply regret them," a statement from Dior read. "Dior was one of the first international brands to enter China and has won the affection and respect of the consuming public. We absolutely do not support any remark that hurts the Chinese people's feelings."
