The hit HBO drama Succession had a great time at the 2020 Emmys. After being nominated for 18 awards at the 72nd annual event — with many of the show's stars competing with one other — the family drama managed to win four, including the award for Outstanding Drama Series.

The tale of the powerful media family also saw Jeremy Strong winning for Best Actor for his role of a son in the show. Other wins included awards for writing and directing.

The show's creator Jesse Armstrong — who won for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series — criticized Donald Trump and Boris Johnson for their response in handling the COVID-19 crisis.

"Un-thank you to the virus, for keeping us all apart this year," Armstrong said. "Un-thank you to President Trump for his crummy and uncoordinated response. Un-thank you to Boris Johnson and his government for doing the same in my country."

The British writer, who has also worked on comedies Fresh Meat and Peep Show before creating the HBO series, continued: "Un-thank you to all the nationalists and sort of quasi-nationalist governments in the world who are exactly the opposite of what we need right now. And un-thank you to the media moguls who do so much to keep them in power."
