Ugly Betty Moves to NYC

New York City is about to get Ugly!

Governor David A. Paterson, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and ABC Studios President Mark Pedowitz confirmed reports that Ugly Betty will move filming locations to New York City from Los Angeles for its third season in the fall.

The city and state’s 35 percent tax credit – which would save the network a lot of moolah – served as impetus for the bicoastal swap, Mark announced on Monday.

“New York is an integral part of the creative storytelling of Ugly Betty,” he said. “These new tax incentives have made it possible to bring Betty Suarez back to her home town. We appreciate the support from the state and local government and their forward thinking incentives that have helped the series' creative vision and bottom line.”

The show, which follows Queens-born Betty’s (America Ferrera) misadventures at Manhattan’s posh Mode magazine, will also create up to 200 full and part-time jobs with the city switch.

“New York City is one of the most desired filming locations in the country and we are pleased to welcome Ugly Betty into that storied history,” Governor Paterson said. “With this hit show set to film in Manhattan and Queens, this will allow viewers to see more of our great city. We welcome ABC Studio’s series which joins a list of other hit television shows, including Law & Order, 30 Rock, and Gossip Girl – all of which are filmed right here in New York City.”

Ugly Betty’s last L.A.-bred episode is the season finale, due for the boob tube on May 22. It will , who is expected to return for five more episodes next season.
