Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

In a brief but upbeat statement posted on Twitter, the Veep star, 56, shared the news.

“1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one,” Julia’s note began.

“The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union,” Julia continued.

The nine-time Emmy winner took the opportunity to make a political statement, adding, “The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal heath care a reality.”

Julia has had a long career in Hollywood, beginning in 1982 when joined Saturday Night Live at the young age of 21, before she had even graduated from Northwestern University.

HBO has released a statement regarding Julia’s diagnosis, telling The Hollywood Reporter: "Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time. We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of Veep."
