VIDEO: James Franco Gets Frank with 'Esquire'

How does a graduate student like James Franco pick his film projects? Do a lot of research? Well, like a true student, he tells Esquire he usually just skims the pages!

When Esquire met up with James for an interview for their September cover, James had a book lying on his table that he felt he had to explain — Twilight.

"It's for a project," he said.

"It's crazy how much sexual tension there is," James added. "It just builds and builds. I mean it never stops. It's sort of explosive by the end. Crazy. Like they'll blow up with it. And of course, they don't. Which is the point too, I guess."

"You probably know I have a lot of projects," he explained. "But that one is way, way off. It's just something I'm thinking about. Off in the distance. Way off."

So how does James pick all of his projects, like Eat Pray Love, for example? Does he read the books?

"What can I say about Eat Pray Love?" he said. "Let's see ..."

"You know, in Eat, Pray, Love, my character mostly appears in the first 20 pages of the book," he said with a smile. "And I can definitely say I read the first 20 pages."

For Esquire's September issue, they examined James as a profile, a short story, a personal history, an art exhibition and a poem. So they decided to give James' brother Dave Franco a project of his own to make five funny videos!
