VIDEO: Michael Douglas Says Son's Sentence was "Adequate"

Since his son was sentenced to five years in prison on a drug conviction, Michael Douglas spoke with the Today show about how he feels Cameron Douglas' sentence was "adequate."

"My son was a drug dealer and he's been trying to kill himself for a while," Michael told Matt Lauer (via Popeater). "I can't condone his behavior and I think the court recognized his drug addiction as well as the crime that he committed," he said. "It's an adequate, I think, amount of time for anybody to spend in jail."

"When I had Cameron, I was early in my career and as opposed to most jobs, making movies takes you all around the world, so you were absentee in that sense," Michael explained of how he has "taken blames about being a bad father." "My priorities have completely changed. My marriage and my families come certainly before my career."

When asked if the letters Michael and his family wrote to the judge made use of their celebrity status in trying to lessen Cameron's sentence, Michael said, "I think any person can understand writing letters for leniency. Everybody does it."

"The best part is that he'll be able to start his life fresh," Michael concluded of his son's sentence.
