Jordin Sparks's career is not in danger of being ruined by her recent vocal cord injury, her record label says.

The Idol winner has been forced to cancel support dates on Alicia Keys's tour, and outlets including Fox News have reported that the damage could be so serious that she may never be able to sing professionally again.

But her rep told Billboard.com that the star just needs to give her voice a little rest before re-joining the tour next month.

The spokesperson for her label, Jive, said there should be no long-term harm.

The 2007 American Idol was booked to support Keys on her 33-date tour, but suffered an acute vocal cord hemorrhage just before the first show on 19 April.

She has already had to ditch three performances and will be out of action for the rest of the month.

A Jive spokesperson told the magazine's website: "Jordin is on a vocal rest, but she's expected to make a full recovery and join Alicia on tour in May."
