OK!'s Dereki Ivie and TV Fanatic break down America's Next Top Model and American Idol!

American Idol: “The girls performed tonight, and the girls had to work it like the rent was due. Kady Malloy admits she thought she was a goner last week, then tries to redeem herself with “Who Wants to Live Forever.” Ummm, Simon’s right, she is boring. I think America may fix its mistake this week and send her home.

Two rock songs went a little bit country in the hands of Kristy Lee Cook and Brooke English. Kristy sang “Faithfully.” Smart move, Randy was in the band Journey, so he’s digging it. I have to admit, I kinda didn’t hate it myself. I’m not so hot though on Brooke’s rendition of Pat Benatar. I mean, how can you perform that song and not do Paula Abdul’s cool dance moves from the video – “Love is a Battlefield,” jazz hands!

Then there were the gals who took on the big songs, like Asia’h Epperson. She totally ignored Simon’s advice that she’s not a good enough singer to take on the powerhouses like Celine and Whitney, and does Ms. Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.” And Simon, predictably, doesn’t like it. Syesha Mercado channels her Whitney too with “Saving All My Love For You.” It’s okay. She hits the notes, barely. But at least she went there. Ramiele Malubay plays it safe on her version of “Against All Odds.” Without those big swelling notes, I was left feeling disappointed, just like Simon. Carly Smithson’s “I Drove All Night” by Cyndi Lauper is fine enough, but Carly, take note: you and Michael Johns really need to pull off that show-stopping performance Simon keeps demanding, or people may start thinking your second chance at stardom really is a waste of time.

So who’s the standout of the night? Surprise, surprise, it’s Amanda Overmyer who rocks out Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself for Loving You.” Simon says he loves it – but you got to wonder if it’s that reverse psychology of his. Who cares? I enjoyed it. It was nice to hear Amanda enunciate all the big words she reads in those book she loves.” – TV Fanatic

America's Next Top Model: "Makeover show! You know I love that stuff! Although I will say that I didn't like that we didn't have the big reveal this year with Tyra standing up there telling them they were going to be bald and all that good stuff. Surprisingly enough everyone accepted their new looks without a problem. Of course Fatima was complaining that it hurt! Stacey Anne got some busted hair cut and was fine with it, but it does not look good! And what's with all the white girls getting the horrendous extensions snd weaves? They're all like Brittany, aka Bozo the Clown, from Cycle 8 all over again! In Cycle 1 Adrianne and Shannon both had weaves and they looked amazing. These new hair do's are so fake. Allison and Fatima had some sort of blow out, but no one really cares because they are both annoying. To the photo shoot! The girls were lucky enough to model Elle McPherson's line of intimates while Elle herself was there. She looked amazing and was really supportive and helpful to the girls. So here's my critique: Amis still has no idea what she is doing, Lauren looked like a crazy duck trying to fly into the wind, Allison poses too much, Dominique looked like a catalog soccer mom (because they gave her that exact haircut)!, Whitney couldn't breathe because her outfit was binding, Claire is a hot bitch, Fatima is a bit awkward, Marvita is scary in person but hot in her photos, Stacey Anne was good, Anya is hot -- Aimee is hotter, and Katarzna (whose name Tyra refuses to pronounce correctly) is a hoochie mama. At judgement Allison is sent home because she is a conceited wench and no one really cared. It was almost as if they forced themselves to hug her at the end. Until next week: Smile with your eyes!" -- Derek
