SKIN

Winter's low humidity makes supple skin hard to accomplish. "Moisturize within three minutes of a bath or shower," says celebrity ermatologist Dr. Neil Sadick. "Your body is still moist, and you are better able to trap the water to your skin." And whil a long, hot, steam shower sounds soothing in the cold months, it actually can have the opposite effect. Says Dr. Sadick,"Long or frequent showers remove protective oils that the skin naturally produces. When the oils are lost, moisteure from the skin also escapes."

HAIR

Hair is prone to frizziness during winter and will benefit from the control and extra sheen provided by a styling product. "I always use a blow-dry lotion as a final step," says stylist Andrew Tartara of Swerve Salon in Chicago. "After a blowout, it helps with definition and managing flyaways." Want to avoid lackluster hair? "I recommend a deep conditioner at least once a week to lock in moisture," instructs Tartara.

LIPS

Peeling skin on your lips can be one of the most unattractive signs of drying out, so don't forget to exfoliate your kisser. Maintain that pretty pout by applying a gloss or lipstick with moisturizing benefits.

FACE

While most of your body is usually covered, your face is almost always exposed to the outside environment. Winter is the season to look for a thicker, creamy moisturizer to form a barrier between your skin and harsh winds. "After exfoliating, use a cold compress on your face 20 minutes prior to applying moisturizer," suggess Dr. Sadick. "This will help improve the absorption and decrease inflammation of the skin." For a more thorough approach, use a humidifier in your bedroom at night.

HANDS

During cold-and-flu season, it's best to constantly wash your hands, but drying soaps and rough paper towels can take their toll on skin. Keep hand lotion nearby for a quick fix, and don't forget about keeping your fingernails well conditioned. Moist cuticles prevent nails from splitting and help avoid dreaded hangnails.
