Johnny Depp has a soft spot for Captain Jack Sparrow and children's charities.

So how does the actor combine the two? Johnny always makes sure that when he travels he has his Pirates of the Caribbean costume handy. According to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who was speaking at the Produced By conference, Johnny loves dressing up in his pirate garb and dropping in unannounced at children's hospitals in whatever area of the world he happens to be visiting.

Johnny "knows he is a very fortunate person and he wants to give back,” says Bruckheimer.

Johnny has always enjoyed using his fame to surprise his littlest fans. While filming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in England back in 2010, Johnny shocked kids at the Meridian Primary School in Greenwich after a then 9-year-old student named Beatrice Delap invited the star for a visit.

"It was the most exciting school day ever. I had the idea to write the letter last week after me and a friend went to see the film set," recalled Beatrice. "Yesterday the school called us in for a special assembly at the end of the day. They told us there had been a couple of incidents in the playground."

Instead of a scolding, the students got a pleasant surprise. ''Then Johnny Depp walked in dressed as Captain Jack," said Beatrice. "There were gasps and screams. He pulled the letter out of his pocket and said he was going to frame it. Then he called me down and gave me a hug."
