For the second time, American Idol contestant Syesha Mercado has had a baby taken from her by child protection services.
During the emotional video the 2014 The Book of Mormon star cries and pleads with the authorities not to remove her baby. The video's release has caused outrage from many who are also accusing the child protection service as being racist.
At one point during the footage, Mercado can be seen filling her baby's bottle with breast milk as she's whisked off in the back of an SUV to an unknown location.
However, this is not the first time Mercado has had a baby taken from her in 2021. It's alarming that just 5-months ago her 15-month old son Amen' Ra was also placed in foster care after a doctor noticed that the child was malnourished and immediately contacted authorities.
This time the singer and actress who finished third in the seventh season of AI, had her child removed from her care because she was told that she didn't notify authorities she had given birth while an ongoing legal battle for custody of her son was still active.
Meanwhile, Mercado is claiming that her baby is happy and healthy. However, despite having what she alleges are the proper documents required by the court the baby was removed until further notice.
The 34-year-old Sarasota, Florida native has described the removal of her baby as "forcefully and legally kidnapped." Mercado and her partner Tyron Deener, 36, posted the hour long video that occured near Whitfield Drive and Lockwood Ridge Road on Instagram with the caption, "THEY TOOK OUR BABY AGAIN!"
Mercado can be seen crying and pleading, "Do you not feel anything? You guys, I'm human. This is my baby. My baby is is days old –– and you're taking my baby away from me." At this time, the video has had over 1.8 million views.
After their first child was placed into protective custody the couple started a GoFundMe page titled, "The Legalized Kidnapping of Black Babies Through CPS." Thus far around $291,000 has been raised.
OK! reached out to Sarasota's child protection agency for comment but have not heard back at this time.
