According to TMZ, Britney Spears has taken a huge step to one day getting her life back. The embattled pop star has reached out to a power law firm with the first order of business being to fire her father, Jamie Spears, from his role as conservator.
TMZ sources confirm that Britney has asked lawyer and former federal prosecutor Matthew Rosengart to represent her. Court documents obtained by TMZ read as follows:
"Pursuant to my statement in open court on June 23, 2021, my rights, and my desire to end the above-referenced conservatorship as to my father Jamie P. Spears, it is my desire to choose and retain my own counsel, at Greenberg, Traurig, LLP as set forth above."
Judging by Rosengart's list of A list clients, the "Toxic" singer's father may soon have to find a real job. Rosengart's star-studded clients include, Steven Spielberg, Sean Penn, Ben and Casey Affleck, Eddie Vedder, Soledad O'Brien, Michael Mann and NBA star Jimmy Butler.
Spears relationship with her long time court-appointed attorney Sam Ingham fell apart after she said in court that she never knew she could end the conservatorship. Ingham resigned soon after Spears made the comment, not only denying it but claiming Spears was told many times she could end the conservatorship.
Ingham added that his former client was even told this in court and that for years she declined.
As OK! previously reported, Spears has gained the attention of the world as she fights to win back her personal life and career. Bessemer Trust was scheduled to take over her conservatorship but pulled out last week, leaving Jamie as his daughter's court appointed keeper.
Despite Spear's current and bold steps to get back her life, her battle is far from over. The next hurdle for the troubled pop star will be getting past a medical report that continues to list Spears as her own worst enemy due to her long term struggles with her mental health.
The biggest obstacle standing in her way in regards to retaining her own legal counsel is that her father must approve any contract she signs. It's a safe bet that Jamie won't be too keen on letting go of the conservatorship that he has fought hard to keep.
Regardless of the legal drama, Spears seems determined to cut ties with her father and to finally win back her freedom.
