Johnny Depp's lawyers have served Elon Musk with a subpoena for the actor's upcoming $50 million case against ex-wife Amber Heard.

The subpoena sent to the SpaceX billionaire allegedly includes requests that essentially cover "all communications between you and Ms. Heard regarding Mr. Depp."

The 34-year-old beauty dated the tech entrepreneur for one year, until early 2018, although Depp has insisted the relationship began while Heard was still married. Musk has denied the claims and even joked last summer about settling things with Depp in a “cage fight.

Depp’s attorneys have also issued a subpoenas for the ACLU now that he’s facing a $100 million counterclaims case from his The Rum Diary co-star, whom he married in 2015.

The 57-year-old actor is currently awaiting a hearing in hope of appealing a libel suit he lost late last year against tabloid The Sun for calling him a “wife beater.” After the ruling, Depp exited the Fantastic Beasts franchise by Warner Bros.

The legal drama all started when Heard filed for divorce from Depp in May 2016 and obtained a temporary restraining order against him, alleging in her court declaration that he had been verbally and physically abusive throughout their relationship, usually while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Depp denied this and alleged that she was "attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse."

The Aquaman actress testified about the alleged abuse under oath at a divorce court deposition. Evidence from her court filings was also published in the media. A settlement was reached in August 2016, and the divorce was finalized in January 2017.

Heard dismissed the restraining order, and they issued a joint statement saying that their "relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm."

Depp paid Heard a settlement of $7 million, which she partly donated to the ACLU. She was subsequently named an ACLU Ambassador for women’s rights. She was publicly thanked at the time by the organization’s “incredibly grateful” executive director for having “so very generously shown her support.”

Then in 2019, Depp sued Heard for $50 million for defamation over an op-ed she wrote about her experiences of leaving an abusive relationship for The Washington Post. The Pirates Of The Caribbean star also alleged that Heard had been the abuser, and that her allegations constituted a hoax against him. Heard denied her ex's claims, maintaining that he was the abusive party

The upcoming trial is set to start on May 17 in Virginia’s Fairfax County.

Deadline was first to report about Elon Musk and the ACLU's subpoenas.
