Rising football star Dwayne Haskins Jr. has died at 24-years-old.

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback passed away early Saturday morning after being fatally hit by a car. According to his agent, Cedric Saunders, Haskins was training in South Florida with his teammates at the time of his death.

"I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins," Haskins' coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement confirming the young NFL player's shocking passing. "He quickly became part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community."

"Dwayne was a great teammate, but even more so a tremendous friend to so many. I am truly heartbroken," he continued. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his entire family during this difficult time."

Haskins formerly played for Ohio State in college, and in 2019, he was drafted by the Washington Commanders (previously known as the Washington Redskins). He started seven games in his first season with the team, but was benched during his second season after a brutal loss.

Following his two seasons in Washington, he was released by the team, and later signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in early 2021.

The Commanders' co-owners Daniel and Tanya Snyder also grieved the death of the budding athlete, remembering him for his talent and "infectious personality" during his short time with the team.

"We are devastated to hear the news of the tragic passing of Dwayne Haskins Jr.," they wrote in their own statement. "He was a young man with a tremendous amount of potential who had infectious personality. To say we are heartbroken is an understatement. Our hearts and prayers are with the members of Dwayne's family and all of those who knew him and loved him."

Haskins leaves behind his wife, Kalabrya Gondrezick-Haskins, who formerly played college basketball for the Lady Spartans at Michigan State.
