A Maui Police Department spokesperson told Us Weekly, "I can confirm on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at about 7:30 p.m., police responded to a report of an assault that occurred at a West Maui restaurant involving a male victim and one responsible party."
"The incident is currently under investigation; no further information is available at this time." Meanwhile, TMZ reported on Friday that the Whiplash star and his wife Keleigh Sperry, 28, dined at posh Monkeypod Kitchen in Maui on Wednesday, and an assailant punched Teller in the face while he was in the restroom.
Apparently, the two men got into a heated exchange outside the bathroom which quickly escalated into the alleged attacker whopping Teller in the face. Although it appears Teller was not seriously injured, the actor did threaten to press charges. It's not clear is the couple stayed for dessert.
TMZ claims the man who throw the alleged punch is a wedding planner who claimed Teller owes him $60,000 for his September 2019 nuptials to Sperry, which took place on the Island.
"Miles was jumped by 2 men we have never met after they trapped him in a bathroom. It seems these same men have done this to many people and we appreciate your support Maui. This is now a criminal investigation," Sperry shared on a since-removed Instagram Story on Friday, May 28. The 28-year-old also said that a report that Teller was "punched" in the face regarding money is "completely false."
The same message was also reportedly shared on Woodley's Instagram Story.
The Hollywood star and model made news earlier in the week for spending their vacation with Woodley, 29, and Rodgers, 37. Teller and Woodley have become close friends while starring in several films together including Divergent and The Spectacular Now.
Yet, despite the punch heard around the world, the foursome seemed to have a great time together. In fact, Sperry posted joyous videos and photos of the trip on Instagram. The celebrity love birds danced to a cover of "Stand By Me" at the restaurant in question and in another video the Big Little Lies alum and Rogers listened to Taylor Swift's "The 1".
Images of the trip showed the friendly pair as they hiked, swam in the sea and golfed.
So far no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.
