PHOTOS2014 Kids Choice Awards: Overheard on the Orange Carpet

The 2014 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards' orange carpet was bustling on Saturday celebs from TV, music, movies and sports all converged to celebrate the winners,nominees and, most importantly, fans. OK! caught up with a slew of stars to get their take on the beloved slime-packed show and offer up the latest in their busy lives.

YouTube phenom Todrick Hall choreographed and performed in the Kids Choice Awards’ opening number and he’s super humble about the exciting gig. “It’s so crazy, some of the executives from Nickelodeon, their kids watch my videos and said, ‘You should use him,’” says Todrick. “It was such an out of the box decision for them to make but I’m so glad they took a chance and when out on a limb and hired someone to open the show that isn’t as known as people who have opened it in the past. I think the audience is going to be pleasantly surprised.”

Alli Simpson rocked the most killer eye look. “My makeup artist Glenn Nutley is amazing,” she gushed. “The eye shadow I’m wearing is a mixture of the NARS Goddess palette and then the black Stila Jewel Eye Shadow. It’s a smoky eye but in navy, which I like.”

Austin & Ally star Laura Marano was stoked to attend her first Kids Choice Awards and said she wouldn’t be opposed to getting a dose of the signature green stuff. “Surprisingly, knowing me who’s not for anything green or slimy at all, I’m going to go for it,” she told OK!. “Why not? It seems like a once in a lifetime experience. I’m sure I’ll completely regret the decision after I say yes but, come on, you’ve got to do it.”
Vanessa Marano said she’d be more than happy to help facilitate little sis Laura’s sliming and admitted choosing what to wear to the show was actually a piece of cake. “It was the second dress I tried on and it was just like, ‘Bam! That!,’” she tells OK!. “I love black. I love dark. It’s very rare that you can find something dark that also has a color attached to it so I wanted to take advantage of it. And high collar and high hair—that’s the rule, right?”

Sophia Grace & Rosie were too cute in their pink ensembles and were excited to talk about their upcoming flick that will be on DVD in May. "It’s about me and Rosie helping to save princesses and one is trying to become a queen," says Sophia Grace. "At one point we get locked in a dungeon but in the end it all turns out to be fine."
Awkward’s Greer Grammer felt right at home on the USC campus where the awards were held because she goes to school there. Her advice for anyone applying to college soon? “Get it done early,” she says. “I waited for my application to USC, It said it had to be postmarked by January 11 or whatever and I walked into the post office on January 11. Try to get it done earlier and not stress. I’m a procrastinator but don’t procrastinate on this because your life is so much better when it’s done.”
Willow Shields was hoping to find some of her Hunger Games costars at the show and says she loves all of the noise from the fans. “I haven’t had anything insane (with fans happen) yet, which is good,” she admits. “It’s just that sometimes big groups of kids at the mall in Hunger Games shirts will run up. I’m like, ‘How are you just all randomly in Hunger Games shirts?’”

Pia Mia walked the orange carpet and revealed how she got involved with the Divergent soundtrack. “They reached out to me and asked if I wanted to be on the soundtrack and I said, ‘Of course, I love Divergent,’” she says. “They sent me a track and then I wrote on top of it and then I thought it would be cool if we got a rapper on it so we sent it to Chance and he loved it so he recorded on it and it turned out really dope.”
Nickelodeon vet Nathan Kress told OK! all about his upcoming flick Into the Storm, due in theaters August 8. “The trailer just got released and it turned out really great,” says the iCarly star. “People are catching on. It’s a spectacle. It’s a summer popcorn flick. It’s fan footage style, almost like a documentary, about this town that’s ravaged by a system of tornadoes. It’s told from a bunch of different perspectives. My perspective is I’m a student at the high school and I’m doing a time capsule thing on the day the storm comes in so I’m recording all of it happening.”
Kendall Schmidt was busy promoting his band Heffron Drive's new single "Parallel" but assures Big Time Rush fans the gang is still very much together. "They love it," he says of how BTR devotees are reacting to his new music. "Every once in a while I see someone go, 'Errr, Big Time Rush!' But we’re still together. If there are shows to be played we’re still gonna play ‘em. But it’s really cool that everyone finally gets to flex their muscles and do what they’re really passionate about. But Big Time Rush is half of our other passion. We have other things we want to do and it’s cool to be here now (at the Kids Choice Awards) sort of as an observer as well."
Aloe Blacc performed the hit "Wake Me Up" and recalls the first time he heard it on the radio. "I was really excited and just to test myself I listened to the song and I changed the station and it came on again," he says. "That was pretty crazy."
“I’m the kind of person who tends to wear a lot of black, grey and white,” says Lab Rats star Kelli Berglund. “But I was like, ‘Okay, it’s Spring, it’s the Kids Choice Awards—I want to do something bright and fun. I talked to my stylist and said, ‘Just bring me color!’ He brought this Armani dress and I said, ‘I’m going with that one.’”
The Bella Twins walked the orange carpet with John Cena. “I’m excited to see people get slimed first hand,” said Brie. John has been to the awards before saying, “I truly love it here. It’s an awesome event.”
Who was R5 stoked to see on the orange carpet? "It's fun to see old friends and musicians you haven't seen in a while," says Ross Lynch. "We just ran into MKTO. We have a few mutual friends but we don't talk that much and we really like their music."
