Like wardrobe essentials, there are a few makeup looks every girl should master in her lifetime. And it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they’re some of the looks your favorite celebrities rock on the red carpet on the reg.

So what do you need to know to create, say, the perfect red lip like our girl Tay or Cara Delevingne’s dramatic brows? To really dissect the need-to-know info, we caught up with Sabastian Latolais, Brow Guru and Make-Up Artist at Gotham Beauty Lounge. This makeup expert, who has worked with celebs like Reese Witherspoon, broke down the application and product basics on 5 timeless and celeb-inspired beauty looks. Check it out.

Taylor Swift's Perfectly Balanced Red Lip

“The perfect set of red lips are hard to pull off, but Taylor always does the look right. She tends to use a blue base red lip. I love Eternal Matte Lip Color by Kevyn Aucoin. To achieve the look, begin by placing foundation that clearly matches your skin tone all over the entire lip, then line the lip with a lip liner that matches the lipstick color—not a darker one! Red Velvet by Gotham Beauty Lounge here in New York City complements Eternal Matte Lip Color well.”

Lupita Nyong’o’s Electric Blue Eye Shadow

“Lupita tends to stick to blue eye shadows to frame the eye and bright pinks and purples, while leaving the rest of the face natural. For the natural look on the face, I would highlight and contour the face using Gotham Beauty Lounge mineral foundation sticks ‘cocoa’ and ‘rich bronze.'”

“You want to make sure your skin is always hydrated and that you’re using a soothing, gentle face wash, hydrating serum, and moisturizer. I love Cleanse cloths by Lauren Napier because they are very hydrating and toning on the skin,” he says.

“Use a tinted moisturizer all over the face to create a nice even tone. Next, contour using a bronzer under the cheekbones, along the jaw line and frame the whole face. Finish the contour with a highlighting stick on the t-zone, I love ‘Luminizer’ foundation stick by Gotham Beauty Lounge. For the dewy eye look, it is important to use loose shimmer shadow all over the lid. I love Kevyn Aucoin’s loose shimmer shadow in ‘Topaz,’ but make sure to use a shadow primer first so it doesn’t blow away.”

Finish off your look by lining your lops with a nude liner and a natural pink gloss.

Kate Mara’s Subtle Smoky Eyes

“To start, select simple metallic colors like brown and gold eye shadows to gently rub around the eye.”

Sabastian says this is the first step in creating the smoky effect.

“Outline the eye with black liner, framing the whole eye. This will give you that subtle smoke without taking away the naturalness of the face. Using Kevyn Aucoin’s highly recommended smokey brown’ duo eye shadow palette, complete step one and two and don’t forget to always use a very light frost to add to the brow bone to show off that arch!”

Cara Delevingne’s Eye-Catching Eyebrows

“It is best to start seeing a brow artist who tweezes and can shape your brows to match your face structure,” says Sabastian

“Cara Delevigne’s brows still appear neat and anyone can make that look even bolder with the help of a defining eye brow pencil. I always recommend the Brunette Brow Definition pencil by Kevyn Aucoin to achieve this.”
