So Shady! Alexis Ohanian Wears A DARE T-Shirt As Serena Williams Takes On Maria Sharapova

Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian is showing his support during the US Open in an unconventional way. The Reddit c0-creator, 36, wore a DARE t-shirt during Serena’s match against Maria Sharapova, who was banned in 2016 after testing positive for restricted drugs.

D.A.R.E., which is an acronym for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, a program that “envisions a world in which students everywhere are empowered to respect others and choose to lead lives free from violence, substance abuse, and other dangerous behaviors,” according to the organization’s website.

On March 7, 2016, Maria, 32, announced that she tested positive for Meldonium, a recently banned performance enhancing drug at the Australian Open. She was the world’s highest-paid female athlete at that point. She claimed the drug she used was for medical purposes and didn’t know it was part of the restricted substance list. Originally slated to serve a two-year ban, she served only 15 months.

The D.A.R.E. shirt left fans divided on whether or not Alexis wore it to slam Maria. Some fans called the shirt “petty” and “disrespectful.” One offended follower tweeted, “Serena's husband is truly appalling. Can't stand that guy.”
