The Associated Press reported on July 16 that Heard was charged with two counts of illegal importation and one count of producing a false document for bringing the dogs into the country on her visit to see her husband. The Australian government said Heard had not properly quarantined the dogs before their arrival and gave her 72 hours to send the dogs home or they'd be euthanized.

Heard will appear in a Queensland court on Sept. 7, where she can face a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and a fine of up to $75,000 for the illegal importation charges and up to an additional $7,000 and a maximum one-year prison sentence for the false document charge.
