Anne Hathaway is not taking a sip of alcohol until she's 54 years old. If that seems like a far ways away, it is! The star said she's given up drinking for the next 18 years during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Read on to find out why the 36-year-old is making such a drastic life change.
Anne sat down with Ellen DeGeneres to discuss her current project Serenity.
While discussing life on set with costar Matthew McConaughey, she revealed a night out with him led to her decision to go sober.
"We drank the night away, and then I had to go to a meeting with Steven Knight, our director, the next day, and I was just kinda — have you guys ever had to go to a meeting hungover?" she asked the audience. "I was just kinda stumbling in with one eye open and I was trying to convince him about certain things about my character."

While her last sip may have been at Matthew's expense, another leading man in the actress' life played a part in her decision. "I’m going to stop drinking while my son is in my house just because I don’t totally love the way I do it and he’s getting to an age where he really does need me all the time in the mornings," she confessed.
"I did one school run one day where I dropped him off at school, I wasn’t driving, but I was hungover and that was enough for me. I didn’t love that one," she continued.
It's not the first time the star has confessed she's drank too much. During an interview with ABC in April 2017, she was asked if alcohol abuse ever interfered with her job. "It's never gotten in the way of me being able to do the work, but I think it was approaching an unhealthy level. I went to college and I drank a great deal, by the time of The Devil Wears Prada, I was drinking more," she told Peter Travers.
