Anthony Bourdain’s mother Gladys has spoken out about the shocking death of her son, who committed suicide on Friday morning.
The world was left stunned when the famed chef and author committed suicide by hanging himself in the bathroom of his French hotel room. He was discovered by fellow chef Eric Ripert.
Now his mother Gladys has spoken out about her son’s unfortunate passing with The New York Times, where she discussed how she’s feeling as well as his mental state prior to his death.
Gladys, 83, said that she had no indication that he was even thinking of suicide. “He is absolutely the last person in the world I would have ever dreamed would do something like this,” she said.

Ms. Bourdain, who works as copy editor for the New York Times, said that Eric (Ripert) told her that “Tony had been in a dark mood these past couple of days,” but that she had no idea why he might have decided to kill himself.
“He had everything", she said. “Success beyond his wildest dreams. Money beyond his wildest dreams.”
