Katherine's A-list dad was not thrilled about the couple's romance in the beginning and presented Chris a challenge he was willing to fight.
A source tells OK!, "Arnold wasn't crazy about Katherine dating an actor - he knows the Hollywood scene all too well and how hard it is on marriage."
Chris wasn't giving up though. "Chris understood that he just wants the best for Katherine and reassured him that he has nothing but good intentions. They talked it out and melted the ice," the insider continued.
Fast forward and now the pair is set to be Mr. and Mrs.
Chris shared the news he'd proposed to the 29-year-old on Instagram. He waited to ask both Arnold and Katherine's mom, Maria Shriver (who introduced the pair), for their daughter's hand in marriage.
