Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner Still Have 'Tension' While Coparenting — 'There’s Definitely A lot Of Resentment'

Former couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner may have split back in 2015, but the two are still trying to play nice for the sake of their three children. The Oscar winner and the Alias star are making an attempt to keep their coparenting relationship civil amid tensions.

Ben and Jen, both 47, share kids Violet, 14, Seraphina, 10, and Samuel, 7. A source revealed to Us Weekly that the pair has "underlying tension" lurking beneath their seemingly peaceful coparenting relationship.

“Jen has very high standards and expectations,” the source continued. “She wants things done a certain way, and sometimes Ben isn’t able to live up to that.”

“Jen puts up with a lot and does everything she can to keep it together,” the insider told the outlet. “She wants Ben to be in the kids’ lives. That means dealing with things she isn’t happy about. Jen’s major sticking point is that Ben needs to be sober — and truthful about it. There’s no wiggle room on that as far as his relationship with his kids goes. He’s trying to stay on track and be the best he can for them. But Jen doesn’t always trust him — and relapse is always a concern.”

The Argo director appeared drunk at a Halloween party back in October 2019 shortly after reaching a year of sobriety. Ben confessed to his relapse while visiting Jennifer and their kids at her home just a few days later. He spoke to the press in front of Jennifer's home and acknowledged that he is going to work harder at maintaining his sobriety.  “Well, you know, it happens. It’s a slip, but I’m not going to let it derail me,” he said.

The insider explained, “Regardless of any disagreements, they try to put on a happy face for the kids and put their needs first. There’s definitely a lot of resentment, but they’re a family first and foremost.”

As fans know, Ben and Jennifer finalized their divorce in October 2018, three years after their initial breakup. The Love, Simon actress has since been dating John Miller and Ben is dating Los Angeles-based musician Katie Cherry. Before Katie, he was in a relationship with SNL producer Lindsay Shookus until April 2019.
