Beyoncé Pays Tribute To Iconic Olympic Athlete Florence Joyner For Halloween
Nov. 1 2018, Updated 7:37 p.m. ET
Though Beyoncé debuted an uncanny “Phoni Braxton” costume based on Toni Braxton’s 1993 release Another Sad Love Song over the weekend, that was only the beginning of her Halloween celebration. Yesterday, she shared costume number two — a gorgeous tribute to track and field legend Florence “Flo Jo” Joyner.
Watch!
Flo Jo is hailed as the fastest woman of all time — her records for the 100m and 200m sprints remain unbroken.
Though many women runners tended to shy away from flashy accessories and anything that would slow them down, Florence eagerly brought her fashion sense and personality to the track. She became known for her bright one-leg lycra outfits and her perfectly manicured nails.

Bey took the opportunity to recreate Flo Jo's iconic looks from the athlete’s time at the 1988 U.S. Olympic trials.
The “Formation” singer donned a purple and blue one-leg lycra suit and pulled on a thick black wig that looked just like Flo Jo’s full mane.
Husband Jay-Z also joined in on the Halloween festivities. He recreated John Carlos’ iconic Black Panther salute from the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City.
