Even though she’s facing a new round of pregnancy rumors and talk that she has a new album on the way, Beyoncé’s marriage to Jay Z remains a hot topic among the superstars’ fans. And despite their attempts to knock the rumors, the signs have been piling up that Bey and Jay’s dynasty may indeed be falling apart!
The marriage drama first started back in May 2014 when surveillance footage leaked of Solange Knowles‘ elevator attack on Jay Z, leaving many shocked that the typically flawless couple’s marriage turmoil had possibly been revealed!
And the drama continued throughout the summer of 2014, with reports revealing that Bey barely talked to Jay as they completed their joint On the Run tour! Beyoncé fueled the divorce talk more when she changed one of the lyrics in her song “Resentment,” a track that talks about a woman who has been cheated on in a longterm relationship. At their Cincinnati, Ohio, show, Bey changed the line "Been ridin’ with you for six years” to “Been ridin’ with you for 12 years.” This made many fans believe the she was referencing her own 12-year relationship with Jay Z!
That same summer, Beyoncé was spotted shopping alone for an apartment in New York City. However, the divorce talk simmered down by the end of the summer, as the two went into overdrive, posting several loving photos on social media of their family vacations and couple’s outings.
However, by the spring of 2015, Jay Z was reportedly struggling to settle into the duo’s new home in Los Angeles, California, after their relocation from New York City. And Bey didn’t help matters when she reportedly purchased a 22-room mansion in New Orleans, Louisiana — which is the same city where her sister, Solange, nephew, Julez, and brother-in-law, Alan Ferguson live! “Bey bought the property under Sugarcane Park LLC, which has the same address as her management company. It was her purchase, not a joint one between her and Jay,” a source told In Touch. “That’s very telling.”
And by the fall, it was revealed in a new tell-all book that the two had actually broken up “for a year” early in their relationship over rumors that Jay Z was dating his artist Rihanna. “Beyoncé didn’t know what to make of this, and it actually ended up breaking them up for a time,” J. Randy Taraborrelli’s wrote in his book Becoming Beyoncé. “They spent maybe a year apart from each other because Beyoncé just wasn’t sure of what to make of the situation with Rihanna.”
He added that though the rumors were created as a PR stunt to build buzz about Rihanna in her career’s early days, Bey was still angry about them years later! “People told me that there was a whispered argument that night having to do with Jay wanting to go to a party for Rihanna,” he said. “Beyoncé did what Beyoncé does. She laid down the law . . . it was a whispered married couple’s argument that would’ve gone by completely unnoticed had not Solange overheard it.”
Things took another unexpected turn for the couple at the top of 2016 when it was revealed that Bey had ditched most of her management team, including her general manager of five years, Lee Anne Callahan-Longo! “Beyoncé basically cleaned house, got rid of her whole team, which included her cousin, and hired a new team. She wants to surround herself with business people who could take her career to an even higher level,” an insider told Page Six. “She has one album left to deliver before her deal is up with Columbia, plus she wants to make smarter decisions where it comes to touring, sponsorships and acting roles.”
The big change left many to speculate that the singer was attempting to get her business affairs in order without any input or assistance from Jay. And the divorce talk grew even more when RadarOnline.com reported that two had gone through all of their assets since their 2008 wedding to make sure they defined how they’d be split “in the case of divorce.”
“They have a pre-nuptial agreement already in place, but so much has happened in terms of their empire that it’s needed updating for some time,” the source said. “When they went through their roughest period last year, they both agreed it was time to re-clarify certain aspects of their agreement, but it’s taken months to go through all their assets with a fine-tooth comb.” And even a 50-50 custody agreement for their daughter Blue Ivy and any future children they have was included in the document, the insider added.
