Is this the biggest little lie yet? Poorna Jagannathan revealed that an alternate ending to the second season of HBO’s hit series Big Little Lies killed off one of the notorious mom squad – The Monterey Five. Beware of spoilers ahead!
When Poorna, 46, watched the season finale on July 21, she was just as shocked as everyone else with the second season’s cliffhanger finish, as the Monterey Five – Celeste, Madeline, Jane, Renata and Bonnie – walk into the Carmel by the Sea police station.
However, The Night Of actress had a different reason to be surprised. “I read the script and I watched yesterday’s episode and I was like, ‘Oh my god there might be a season three!’” she revealed to Vanity Fair.
Adding, “It’s not the script I got! One character doesn’t even make it. One character dies. It’s a different script. This version left the door open on something I thought was definitely closed.”
Poorna did not reveal which character died according to the script she was given. It could be anyone’s guess as to which of the Monterey Five didn’t make it.
However, the prospect of a third season is up in the air. Nicole Kidman “would love a third season,” but executive producer David E. Kelley revealed in June that his team “wrote season two as if it were the end.”
Fans aren’t sure what could be more exciting – a third season of Big Little Lies, or finally seeing Reese Witherspoon hurl an ice cream cone at Meryl Streep.
