BTS Wins Reader's Poll For Time Person Of The Year

Another one for the books! BTS has had a record-breaking 2018 and they don’t seem to be slowing down even a little. The Korean supergroup has just won Time’s online reader’s poll for Person Of The Year.

The “Idol” singers managed to beat out household names like Michelle Obama, Serena Williams, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

They won the top spot with 9% of the poll — they beat Planet Earth with a 0.12 percent margin for first place. However, as Time editors ultimately make the final decision, journalist Jamal Khashoggi has posthumously received the official accolade.

This isn’t the first time the seven-member group has appeared on a Time list. Last year, they were featured on the “25 Most Influential People on the Internet.” That list highlighted BTS’ popularity across social media platforms and noted their huge and devoted fan presence.

It was this same fan following that helped them nab the Top Social Artist award at last year’s Billboard Awards ceremony. Since then, the group has continued checking off important “firsts.”

In May, their Love Yourself: Tear release became the first K-pop album to top the US albums chart and it was the highest-charting album by an Asian act. Then, they were the first K-pop group to perform at this year's Billboard Music Awards, the first K-pop group to give a speech at the UN this September, and the first to play a sold out concert at Citi Field this October.

Most recently, they became the first K-pop group to land a GRAMMY nod. Love Yourself: Tear is competing in the Best Recording Package category.
