NBC Giving ‘Days Of Our Lives’ Another Shot After Placing It On 'Indefinite Hiatus'

Days Of Our Lives, the long-running soap opera, is nearing a deal for a 56th season with NBC. Executive producer Ken Corday revealed the exciting news to production workers on November 21. The soap opera premiered in 1965, and has aired over 13,725 episodes. The show was put in indefinite hiatus on November 12.

According to reports, the deal for a new season is not done yet, but details are close to being finalized. The news comes less than two weeks after the entire cast was released from their contracts, which some speculated as the show ending soon. It reportedly remains unclear if the cast members would be rehired.

The show was put on “indefinite hiatus” at the time. TVLine reported that despite the “gloomy turn of events,” a source speculated that “All indications are that NBC would like to keep the show going.”

Actress Kristian Alfonso denied the rumor that Days of Our Lives is ending in an Instagram video, and was hopeful for another season. “We’re still here,” she captioned the clip from November 12.

Days of Our Lives has featured some of the biggest names in Hollywood over the years, including former RHOBH star Eileen DavidsonJennifer Aniston’s father John Aniston, who plays Victor Kiriakis, Nadia Bjorlin as Chloe Lane, Mary Beth Evans as Kayla Brady, and Deidre Hall as Marlena Evans.

After a huge wave of daytime soap opera cancellations, the genre has beens table for the last few years. The four remaining series are Days Of Our Lives on NBC, General Hospital on ABC and Young and the Restless and Bold and the Beautiful on CBS.

The daytime drama, set in the fictitious Midwestern town Salem, debuted in 1965 and has ran for over 13,725 episodes. Days of Our Lives follows the lives of the Horton, Brady, Kiriakis, Hernandez, and DiMera families.

It began as a half-hour drama, and expanded to an hour in runtime ten years later. Days of Our Lives garnered 61 Daytime Emmy Awards, as well as several People’s Choice Awards, GLAAD Media Awards, and Prism Awards throughout its tenure.
