Demi Lovato Pens Emotional Update About Her Eating Disorder

Demi Lovato shared an emotional message on Instagram about being in recovery for an eating disorder and how it's been the "most challenging journey" of her life. Click through to read her heartfelt message.

"So, I’m insecure about my legs in this picture but I’m posting it because I look so happy and this year I’ve decided I’m letting go of my perfectionism and embracing freedom from self criticism," Demi wrote. "Learning to love my body the way it is is challenging but life changing."

Demi has opened up about her battle with bulimia in the past. At one point, she made herself throw up six times a day, she said.

"Giving up my eating disorder has been the most challenging journey of my life but I work every day towards solid recovery even if I mess up sometimes," Demi continued in her post. "Today I’m feeling strong. You all can do it too. It IS possible. Thank you God for this new chapter in my life. #EDrecovery #happyAF"

Fans showed the pop star an outpouring of support after Demi posted the letter. "You are so inspiring," someone wrote. "Thank you for being so honest with yourself and with us."

Demi told American Way magazine in 2016 that she began binge-eating and purging when she was just nine. She said her grandmother and mother both battled eating disorders, too.
