Gabrielle Union Explains Why She Named Her Daughter Kaavia James

What an absolutely joyous time it is for married couple Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade, who welcomed their first child, a daughter named Kaavia James, via surrogate earlier this month. The Bring It On actress took to her Instagram on Saturday to reveal how she and her husband came up with the name for their littlest one. Read on for all the details.

Gabrielle and Dwyane first revealed the exciting news that they were parents one day after Kaavia was born on November 8th.

The NBA superstar was the one to announce their daughter's name by sharing a pic of him on Instagram with Kaavia James tattooed behind his head. Her full name is Kaavia James Union Wade.

The first-time mommy shared a glowing photo of her with her newborn daughter on Saturday night and explained in detail about how she and Dwyane landed on her name.

"Just greazzzy and happy," she wrote. "That is all. @kaaviajames pronounced Kah-Vee-Uh James. She has 102 nicknames including but not limited to Kaav, Kaavi, Kaavi Baby, Kaavi J, Jamie, KJ, Nugget, Nug, Pooters."

"We wanted to include my family in her name so the "James" is from my uncle James Francis Glass who is also my godfather. Union is her middle name. I've waited this long so fo sho I was gonna get in there."
