The 62nd annual Grammy Awards nominations were announced on Wednesday, November 20, and there were some major nods and some even bigger snubs! Lizzo is the talk of the town after scoring eight nominations, including Album of the Year. Although Taylor Swift was nominated in three categories, fans are upset that Lover was passed over for Album of the Year. Beyoncé's Homecoming live album was also excluded from Album of the Year.
Lizzo, 31, secured her status as the hottest act in music right now by scoring a whopping eight nominations, including Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist. Billie Eilish, 17, is the youngest artist to be nominated in all of the "big four" categories like Lizzo.
Taylor Swift is up for Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance, but Lover didn't make it into the Album of the Year running. Fans are outraged that K-pop boy band BTS didn't score a single nomination despite their record-breaking year. Their song “Boy With Luv” went to No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and collectively they were named one of Time magazine’s 100's most influential people of 2019.
Lil Nas X was nominated for Best New Artist and Song of the Year for “Old Town Road,” but his Album of the Year nomination wasn't a guarantee and took him by surprise. "No f***ing way," he tweeted after he got the news.
Halsey was shut out of nominations entirely. The singer dominated the airwaves with her breakup ballad "Without Me" and was widely assumed to be a contender for Record and Song of the Year, but she was overlooked for some other big names.
Maren Morris was the most nominated artist at the Country Music Awards and took home Best Album for Girl, but she only got one Grammy nomination. The songstress is up for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for "Common."
Bon Iver and Vampire Weekend faired well in the nomination process, but the Jonas Brothers' big comeback wasn't exactly recognized. Their album Happiness Begins was snubbed, but they are in the running for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Sucker."
