The 2020 Golden Globes is almost here and will be kicking off award season in just a few short days. The annual award show honoring the best and brightest in movies and television is set to air on January 5 and stars will be bringing their A-game! Here's all you need to know about the 77th Golden Globe Awards.

The live telecast will be broadcasted on NBC starting at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST.  The elite bash will take place at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA.

Comedian Ricky Gervais is returning to host for a fifth time. He previously hosted the show in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016.

Ellen DeGeneres will be honored with Carol Burnett Award and Oscar winner Tom Hanks is accepting the prestigious Cecil B. deMille Award.

Pierce Brosnan's sons Dylan and Paris Brosnan were named Golden Globes Ambassadors and will assist with handing out the awards during the show.

The nominees were announced on December 9, 2019, by Tim AllenDakota Fanning, and Susan Kelechi Watson.  Netflix's hit drama Marriage Story leads the nominations with six while Netflix's Unbelievable and The Crown lead with four. Amazon Prime's Fleabag, HBO's Big Little Lies and Apple+'s The Morning Show follow close behind with three nods each.

Quentin Tarantino's film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Martin Scorsese's The Irishman are both slated to win top prizes with five nominations. Dramas 1917, Rocketman, Parasite and the family comedy Knives Out are also close second with three noms each.

So how will the winners be chosen? Winners and nominees are voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, an organization that is comprised of about 90 journalists from around the world.

However, with every award show nominations list, there will always be a few snubs. Director Greta Gerwig was passed over for adaption of Louisa May Alcott's novel, Little Women. Shia LaBeouf's screenwriting debut  for the film Honey Boy was also overlooked. Ava DuVernay's innovative Netflix drama series, When They See Us, was also left out of the 2020 list. Zendaya's role in HBO's Euphoria made fans fall in love with her all over again but she was shut out from any Golden Globe nominations.
