Reggie Ossé, known to fans as Combat Jack, has died tragically after a battle with colon cancer at age 48. The hip hop pioneer, who interviewed guests like Ice Cube, Jordan Peele, and Cardi B on his podcast The Jack Combat Show, started off as a lawyer. He represented artists like Jay-Z and Roc-A-Fella Records before making the switch to podcasting. Considered one of hip hop’s “most important historians and voices,” several in the hip hop community have posted tributes to Combat Jack and the impact his career had on the industry.

“Hip Hop has lost one of its most important historians and voices... we had serious ups and downs but I was so happy we had made things good... Rest In Peace to my friend Combat Jack....,” DJ Peter Rosenberg tweeted.

ESPN’s Bomani Jones wrote, “reggie osse was one of the smartest and most helpful ppl i met in this game. he was my listener and i was his. and i hate to know he’s gone. r.i.p., @combatjack.”

“Rest in Peace Combat Jack,” Complex’s Brandon Jenkins tweeted. “ Combat was a living history book for hip hop and was always down to share that information. More importantly, he was kind. We need more of that. And his presence will be missed deeply, but he’ll never be absent.”

MC Hammer tweeted, "I respected him and his work. Good Spirit. RIP Combat Jack."

Record producer The Alchemist paid his respects as well. “Rest in peace Combat Jack,” he tweeted.

“At a loss for words. Rest In Peace to Combat Jack, one of the most incredible individuals I’ve ever known,” Karen Civil tweeted.

“Rest in Power to my brotha Combat Jack,” Tariq Nasheed wrote. “This brotha had so much love and respect for the culture. He was one of the realest dudes in the broadcast game.”

Fellow podcast host Eric and Jeff Rosenthal of ItsTheReal tweeted, “RIP Combat Jack, who let us into his family and onto his podcast, who brought donuts to our apartment and carried stories for days. He left the Lil B show screaming 'swag!' and saying he'd seen the future. A great laugh, a great mind, a great friend and a better man.”
