Britney Spears performed her motherly duties yesterday, taking her son Jayden James Federline to the doctor's office in Santa Monica, Calif. The protective mom held her son close as they got back in the car.

Brit has been out and about in L.A. going about her normal routine — visiting Starbucks often and chauffeuring the boys around with agent boyfriend Jason Trawick.

Brit's relationship with ex-husband Kevin Federline, who the pop princess was married to for two years, has steered away from its tumultuous past and improved. The former couple is cordial and gets along for their sons.

"I’m really happy for her," Kevin told Access Hollywood about how his feelings for Brit. "I’m very happy for her.”
