As fans continue to mourn the loss of Hugh Hefner, the Los Angeles Department of Public Health released his death certificate today, which indicates that an E. Coli infection contributed to the media icon’s cardiac arrest.
Six days after Hugh, 91, died at the Playboy mansion, the cause has finally come to light.
According to his death certificate, the Playboy founder died of a cardiac arrest and respiratory failure after contracting septicemia and an E. Coli infection.
He also had suffered from a long-term back condition, which limited his mobility.
His former girlfriend Barbi Benton, 67, told People magazine that she saw him six months ago and he was “in poor health.”
But despite his decline, his wife Crystal, 31, remembered him for being “an American hero. A pioneer. A kind and humble soul who opened up his life and home to the world.”
