YouTube star James Charles revealed that he was threatened by an Uber driver. He took to social media to share the harrowing experience with his 4.8M followers.
James, 20, alleged that he was verbally abused and physically threatened by a driver from the ride share app. He tagged Uber & its support account on Twitter in a post on February 27. “Hi! one of your drivers in Orlando just called my employee & I dumba**es, b***hes, & threatened to hit us. Please contact me as soon as possible.”
Uber’s support Twitter account responded to James’ tweet. “We take this very seriously. Please send us a DM with your email address and phone number so we can connect ASAP.” James confirmed that he messaged the account.
“We appreciate you following up with us,” Uber’s support handle responded. “We’ve been in touch via DM. If you have any questions, please let us know by replying to that message.”
The first male CoverGirl has yet to share any more information regarding the incident. He is slated to attend the Playlist Live Festival in Orlando from February 28 to March 1.
According to Uber’s community guidelines listed on their website, both riders and drivers are encouraged to “treat your fellow Uber app users as you would like to be treated yourself: with respect.” They are “expected to exercise good judgment and behave decently toward other people when using the Uber apps” and “not to shout, swear, or slam the car door.”
The guidelines continued, “Most importantly, remember that when you use the Uber apps you will meet people who may look differently or think differently than you. Please respect those differences. Aggressive, confrontational, and harassing behavior is not allowed.”
The makeup artist previously worked with Uber in 2017 when he starred in their ad for the company’s Pride campaign.
“@Uber is always my way to get around when it comes to filming collabs, doing shoots, and even hanging with friends. How do you #RideWithPride?” he said in one sponsored post for the brand. In another, he said “80% of my life is spent riding around with @Uber.”
