Dealing with your ex can be a tricky situation, especially when it comes with being professional and working together. That wasn’t the case, however, for Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, who split up after seven years of marriage and two kids together in 2011. She recently revealed that it was their shared passion of music that helped them ‘repair’ parts of their relationship.
Jennifer and Marc got married in 2004, shortly after her breakup with actor Ben Affleck. Four years into their relationship, she gave birth to their twins, Max and Emme.
The couple fell victim to the “seven year itch” when they announced their split in July of 2011, and Marc filed for divorce a year later in April of 2012. They were officially divorced from one another in June of 2014.
Lopez appeared on Spotify’s ¡Viva Latino! podcast's debut episode yesterday, where she discussed how they “repaired” their relationship while working on her upcoming Spanish-language album Por Primera Vez.
“It actually kind of repaired certain parts of our relationship that had been fractured from our marriage and our divorce and it kind of made us friends again,” the singer revealed. “Because when we first started working together, it’s how we met… we met working. And so we remembered that, like, oh right, we connect on this level of music.”

She’s even recorded a version of his 2013 song “Vivir Mi Vida” as a tribute to Marc’s mother Guillermina Quiñones who passed away this past July.
“The first thing that came to my mind, because Marc’s mom had just passed away, you know, my kids’ grandma, was ‘Vivir Mi Vida.’ And I thought, ‘I think that’s a good song to sing right now,'” she said. “But, in a different way. Not in the kind of up-tempo, rhythmic, salsa way that Marc did it, but in a way where you really hear the words to that song, which is, you know, you have one life and you have to live it.”
Jennifer is currently dating Alex Rodriguez, who has spent a lot of time with not only her but his and her kids. The combined families were recently spotted out enjoying some ice cream with one another. As for Marc, he recently got divorced from his third wife, model Shannon de Lima, after three years of marriage.
