Jim Carrey took to Twitter and praised Ariana Grande for being open about her depression. The “Thank U, Next” singer shared a quote about depression on her Instagram story this weekend, attributing it to the Yes Man star. Jim responded to Ariana’s post, and commended her for using her platform to bring awareness to mental health.

Ariana, 25, shared the quote, “Depression is your body saying, ‘I don’t want to be this character anymore. I don’t want to hold up this avatar that you’ve created in the world. It’s too much for me.' You should think of the word ‘depressed’ as ‘deep rest.’ Your body needs to be depressed. It needs deep rest from the character that you’ve been trying to play.”

Jim, 57, shared the full quote on Twitter on April 21 and tagged Ariana. He wrote to her, “I read your lovely mention of me and things I’ve said about depression. A brilliant teacher and friend, Jeff Foster was OG on the ‘Deep Rest’ concept.”

Ariana later responded to her idol, “Thank u so much for your kindness. I don’t think u understand how much I adore you or what you mean to me. Thank you for taking the time to share this with me. You are such an inspiration.”

She also joked, “I can’t wait to tattoo this tweet to my forehead. Sending you lots of love & all things happy.”

Ariana has been super candid about her mental health with her fans. On April 12 she shared a photo of her brain scan, which revealed she’s been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
