Melissa Rivers Talks About Her Father Edgar’s Suicide For The First Time

Melissa Rivers was only 19-years-old when her father Edgar Rosenburg committed suicide. The television host has not talked about the loss until now and admits she harbored anger towards her mom, the late Joan Rivers.

Melissa, 51, spoke about her father’s suicide for the first time in a new podcast, Life After Suicide with Dr. Jennifer Ashton. In a preview for the interview released on April 22, she tells Dr. Jennifer Ashton, “I was angry at my mom. I was angry at my dad. I was angry at the UPS worker.”

She continued, “I used to call it like this free-floating sort of anger.”

Edgar committed suicide in 1987 and in the process of the family’s grief, Joan found out he left no money to their family. The film producer, who was also Joan’s manager for years, also burned through the Fashion Police commentator’s income.

Melissa admitted at the time she felt like an outcast. “Oh my god you feel like you have a big giant stamp on you, nobody knows what to say, nobody knows how to address you, nobody knows what’s okay to bring up,” she told Dr. Jennifer.

She added, “You feel so alone.”
