Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth had some explaining to do after being “caught in the act” breaking a key Duggar courtship rule. The newlyweds had to come clean about their off-limits full hug while talking about their marriage proposal on TLC’s two-part Counting On after show!

As Duggar fans know, side hugs are the only hugs unmarried couples are allowed to engage in before getting married. However, Austin and Joy-Anna exchanged a little more than the permitted partial hug after Joy accepted Austin’s marriage proposal back in March.

“We’re humans and sometimes we don’t always abide perfectly by our rules,” Austin told Daphne Oz in a preview clip of Monday night’s episode. “We try. That was a real hard try,” the 23-year-old joked.

Joy also admitted that she wasn’t even aware that cameramen, who were hiding in the trees, were filming their special moment.

“I didn’t even notice that they were there,” she explains. “I thought it was just us there, and that was really special.” Austin then added, “Those cameramen looked like trees.”

Because of the sneaky camera crew, Joy confessed, “I kept trying to talk myself out of it. I’m like, ‘Surely the proposal isn’t happening right now,’” she said. But it was, and just two months after the Counting On said yes, the couple wed in a large top-secret ceremony in front 1,000 of their closest family and friends.
