Kanye West opened up about his mental health and how his religious beliefs saved him in the August 2019 issue of Forbes. The rapper also went into detail about everything from his bipolar diagnosis to his massively successful Yeezy sneaker line in the interview.
Kanye, 42, revealed that his faith helped him to recover from his mental breakdown, which caused him to cancel his tour and check into a Los Angeles hospital in 2016. "Being in service to Christ, the radical obedience," he praised when asked the secret to his comeback.
The musician was diagnosed with bipolar disorder but he views it as a "superpower" rather than a hinderance.
"‘Crazy’ is a word that’s not gonna be used loosely in the future. Understand that this is actually a condition that people can end up in, be born into, driven into and go in and out. And there’s a lot of people that have been called that ‘C’ word that have ended up on this cover," he noted.
His Yeezy sneakers are expected to generate $1.5 billion in annual sales this year. 'Ye is also busy designing futuristic prefabricated structures inspired by Luke Skywalker's childhood home that he plans on turning into low-income housing. His interviewer described them as, "a trio of structures that look like the skeletons of wooden spaceships."
Kanye took the opportunity to showcase every shoe he's ever created for Adidas by arranging them in concentric circles in the parking lot outside his office.
During the interview, his wife Kim Kardashian admitted that Kanye was initially critical of her new shapewear line, so he drafted a new logo and redesigned the packaging. "He’s just taught me as a person to never compromise and to really take ownership. Before, I was really the opposite. I would throw my name on anything," Kim, 38, said.
